This is a copy of the column of the Virgin Mary erected on the square "Am Hof" in central Vienna in 1647. With the original column, the Emperor Ferdinand III honoured a vow made during the Thirty Years' War. The column was an expression of his gratitude to the Virgin for protecting Vienna from the Protestant Swedes.
